Some people just do a better job of explaining things. As I was growing up this was common sense. Unfortunately, the words "common sense" and "government" is an oxymoron when used in the same sentence.
Even worse, there are Ivy league PhDs with Bylines who don't get it.
Watch it. Learn it. Live it. Then if you ever hear one of your friends talk about benefits of government stimulus you'll be ready to explain the fallacy to them.

Jobs Lost or Saved
Ok - If the Obama Administration wants to get credit for "Saved" jobs with their Jobs Created or Saved phantasm then let's give them credit for those saved jobs.
Let's take a look at Jobs Saved and Lost since this administration has taken over. It's not hard. Here's what you need to do:
Step 1: Obtain the Unemployment numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statics for February 2009. This administrations first full month. Here's the link to check out the numbers for yourself.
Also note just two lines below the Unemployment number that there are 80,699,000 people that are listed as Not in the Labor Force (NILF). What is the definition of NILF? Here it is from the BLS.
The Step 2 Number is: 14,973,000 people unemployed.
Also note that the number of people Not in the Labor Force is 83,107,000. The NILF number over time, in this case 16 months, shows that 2,408,000 MORE people have "given up" looking for a job. As a result, these people don't show up in the unemployment number listed above.
Aren't these people out of work too? According the government's "Unemployment Rate" they aren't. Why? Because they either aren't seeking unemployment benefits or their benefits have run out and aren't looking for work so they no longer are considered unemployed. This statistical sleight of hand is nothing new to this administration but easily explains why you see the unemployment rate go down even when more people become unemployed.
So when you ask yourself 'when more people become unemployed shouldn't the unemployment rate go up?' The answer is: Not when even more people have given up looking for work than become unemployed and apply for unemployment benefits.
OK, Step 3...let's do a little math.
We now have the "Jobs Lost" number: 4,914,000

Viva Mexico - A Better Life
Topic of the DayThe heart-tugging argument many folks want to make is "Mexicans are trying to cross the border to make a better life for themselves."
As I think about this...
* Who isn't trying to make a better life for themselves?
* If it's not possible to make a better life for themselves where they live and it's so bad that they'll risk their life, their families lives, or even extortion from coyotes then the problem isn't with the people. It's with the Mexican government.
Mexican President Calderon comes to the US to bash the Arizona law with a willing President Obama by his side. Shame on you.
I have a proposal for Mr. Calderon. Fix your own country! Do you have such an economic, political, and drug law enforcement mess on your hands that your citizens are willing to risk their LIVES and their families LIVES - the ultimate sacrifice - to get out of the country?
Mr. Calderon you should be EMBARASSED and ASHAMED of this. Instead you come to America and try to embarass us. Instead, you look small and petty, self serving and ignorant.
There IS a model of success that you can adopt. It works every time it's tried. However, it requires good, honest, hard working people. You've got them? GREAT.
Here's the secret: Liberty, Freedom, and Capitalism.
Because Liberty & Freedom is a given, I'm only going to talk about Capitalism - Instead of coming here to the US and poo-pooing our immigration law you should be coming here and saying "MEXICO IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS! We have a ready, willing and able workforce just waiting for you."
You have nearly 2,000 miles of border with the US. Plenty of places in which you start to build opportunities for companies to do business.
Side note: By the way, I've read YOUR immigration law. You have no room to talk. It's much more draconian than anything we could possibly craft here in the United States. You should probably get a clue. They're free.
I've been to your country. Many times. I've also had to pay your local police and the Federales money, on the spot, for something I apparently did or face going to jail. What's up with that?
Another side note: For those people who live in the 46 states that don't border Mexico, the Federales are a slang term for the Mexican Federal Police.
It's no secret here in Arizona about "Banditos" in Mexico. Anybody who travels to Mexico with any regularity is warned about banditos. I've heard stories. This too should be a priority.
Mr. Calderon you have the greatest opportunity of any President of any country in the world. You have a partner to the north who would spend BILLIONS, maybe TRILLIONS of dollars with you. This money will help grow your economy. Help enrich your citizens. Help develop your infrastructure. And, grow your stead within the history of Mexican Presidents.
Instead you choose to pronounce your concern about a law from a single border state. What a wasted opportunity for you to begin to say Viva Mexico-A Better Life.

Afghanistan
I was reading the other day that funding in Afghanistan is now surpassing that of Iraq. Ok.
Then I asked myself, "Self...what are we trying to do in Afghanistan?"

Buycott Arizona
With a very large percentage of the people supporting the Arizona Senate Bill 1070, the "silent majority" needs to speak up. The media, who unabashedly sides with illegals, is vested in promoting every get together of two or more people who oppose this law. That's why you see every little gathering of two or more people who say they want to boycott Arizona.
Arizonans, I say to you, kudos for standing up, strengthening your spine and passing a law that helps EVERY Arizonan, nay, AMERICAN. History will show that this is about the rule of LAW.
What about the uproar? This too shall pass.
You have, as of this writing, 70% of Arizonans that support you. Sixty percent or more nationwide support you. You have at least 10 other states (by some counts 12 other states) looking to enact laws just like you.
Companies and organizations should stand strong with Arizona to fight the silly, kneejerk reaction by misinformed, or just ignorant, misanthropes. They know who they are. You do too.
This is a shoutout to all organizations, companies large and small, and most of all, citizens to do business with Arizona. Let's show that it's advantageous to do business with the 'Silent 70%'. I went to public school so my math is a little fuzzy but, it seems to me that, the percentage of people who support enforcing our laws greatly outweighs the percentage who are for lawlessness. Shouldn't you be targeting your business to them?
So what do you say? Are you going to show the same intestinal fortitude shown by the Arizona Legislature and Governor or are you going to go hide under your desk? Stand up - announce you support this and show it by your actions.
You aren't going to get a single byte's worth of coverage in the liberal press so here's your chance. We'll be adding links to this article and subsequent posts of companies, organizations, and people who are 'Buycotting Arizona' and showing the rest of the country that the scare tactics of old, aka Boycotting, are no longer going to be met with ambivalence from Mainstream America.
